Frequently asked questions (or, things you may wonder about)
1. How personalized can a wedding be?
That depends on how much you are willing to include. I start with a blank outline for every wedding. From the first note of music to the last guests walking out after the ceremony concludes, I will work with you to create a ceremony that fits you. At the other end of the spectrum, if you want a ceremony that is not very individualized, I will work with you to keep it shorter and still let your personalities flow through it.
2. Does my wedding have to be religious?
No. We will work to make your wedding ceremony reflect the values and ideas that you want to include. However, I do retain the right to refuse to accept anything that would violate my morals or my position as a Christian minister. For example, I would not include prayers for Satan's blessing. While I always enjoy the privilege of praying for God's blessing on your marriage, you may choose not to include that in your ceremony.
3. Who is responsible to obtain the marriage license?
You are, as a couple. In Illinois, you go to the county clerk's office in the county where the wedding is to take place, no more than 30 days before the ceremony is to take place. I will ask you to give me the license at the rehearsal, if there is one. I will fill it out and usually drop it at the post office on my way home from your ceremony.
